Hi Jane,
I started running Corel Linux (free version) a week or two ago
(previously Mandrake). I am new to Debian, but as far as I can tell
Corel is basically slink Jr. (fewer packages) with a few Corel-specific
things added in (e.g., a Corel-ized version of KDE). You can, in my
experience, in

a workaround for kppp is to log in as root and do:
chmod u+s `which kppp`
that'll make kppp run as root without you needing to type the stupid
password all the time. sure, it's not as secure, but fine
Folks
export TERM=vt100 worked fine.
Thanks to all.

Hi,
The new syslog package from Red Hat's update site fixes the problem. I
think it uses datagram sockets instead of stream sockets.
So Red Hat 6.1 users should go to:
http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHSA1999055-01.html
and get the new s

As long as you have an analog modem w/ faxing capabilities, you can use

Hi again folks,
got another question for you, When running xconfig I know that the m stands for
module, but when would you select module over y? Obviously you would select n for
items that you don't need included in your kernel, but what is the difference in
saying y to support for my scsi o
Hey Theresa,
There are several programs that you can use. Search for HylaFax

Hey Theresa,
Using modules in the kernel is good for when you want a smaller
kernel and you don't use the module in question to operate the system. ie
-> vfat, ntfs support are better as modules. Scsi support you probably
want to compile in the kernel, unless its a card for a scanner or li
Hi,
There is a program called "Octree" (www.octree.de) which is pretty good.
I've only just started to look at it, but the mailing list (low
traffice) has had some interesting threads. It is still beta and has a
very non-standard interface, but it all looks pretty promising.
Geoffrey.
