modem can be of a help here, but I'm for one am very
sceptical about those gadget. Perhaps since in our country we don't have
really qualified sellers of equipement and user is on his own anyway.

tag on them than passive ISDN cards. And from experience I can assure You
that 486/100Mhz with 20Mb RAM can handle 5 passive cards = 10 B channels.

You nedd kernel support and also userspace utilites isdn4kernel-utils.
Most distributions has those included this days, but it seems that SuSe
has best ISDN support built in and second is Caldera COL > 2.2
