Several years ago we purchased an SMS modem, and use
http://smstools3.kekekasvi.com/ to send SMS pages.
This also avoids any sort of (local) network issue, as it uses the cellular
carrier directly. Bit of monthly dollars, but has proven itself quite
flexibility for the "unknown", and being able to pull out a server while it is
running has potential.
The extra space with a 2U server makes the arms easier to deal with. For now,
I'm still happy with them.

extend its functionality as well. SNMP monitoring is a bit weak, but doable.
Linux monitoring is very strong, with a small agent that runs on each system
(non-privileged user). Very customizable alerts, configured on the central
server.
