I haven't specifically tried this but can't think why it wouldn't work with
the right cable (supported QSFP+). You have the ethernet firmware flashed
on the card (assuming you still need to do that). Did you try FDR
infiniband IP over IB to see if that works?

tried testing with the latest 1.5.8.5 driver with no such luck!

to my surprise, i am getting networking weirdness on my machines.
