It sounds like he doesn't have the correct file for his OS/phone model.

2012 down, meaning Feb 28th down till 2008.

You need to see what the date is on the file then set the date to a month or
two after that on your phone. This is true for any program that is getting
that message.
As a example: One of the files shows a date of 10/05/2011 as the creation
date. So I would set the date on the phone to 12/05/20
