It's not exactly what you are looking for, but I'm working on a script to render mapkeys (legend) images from a stylesheet. It creates a database with node/way/area associated with the tags found in the spreadsheet, then renders it with nik2img. http://dev-yves.dyndns.org/dev/legend2osm_09-06-2
