"Biergarten" is a Bavarian invention, successfully exported to the entire
world.
It was originally a very specific arrangement, basically only in Munich:
outdoors events where only beer was served at tables placed under trees. No
building. No food served and you were expected to bring your own food

Apologies, I shouldn't have used the term 'seating areas'. They
certainly form a part of the garden, but can also include other features
such as playgrounds & large areas of grass (I went to one which had a
full sized football pitch in its grounds).
