Unfortunately the wiki editor who changed the page didn't give an explanation
for the change and there is no discussion on the talk page (OSM tags shouldn't
be described as deprecated without explaining what is wrong with them). You
could try contacting the editor.

In Japan, we have been using "name:ja_rm" or "name:ja_kana" for expression
of Roman writing or pronunciation, traditionally (since around 2010?)
