Joe's suggestion might be your best shot. Another option is to use
your 3-tier architecture approach and our soap server instead of a
relational database server. JSP -> your java middlewhere -> our soap
server.

You might be interested in ProjectB. The intent is to merge it with
JSword. ProjectB has a web interface, however it is fairly out of date
because it was written before I could get JSP support, so it uses
Servlets and XML.
