The biggest problem here is that sword update to 1.8 missed the ubuntu 18 LTS feature freeze, so it will be 2020 before sword 1.8 is fully supported in the bulk of linux installations without special management, and 2022 before Ubuntu 18 support for Sword 1.7 is officially ended.
