I'd like to add my vote for a BlackBerry-specific frontend, and I'd be
willing to help out with the development as well. I have a BlackBerry
Storm and I have downloaded both the YouVersion and the OliveTree
Bibles, and neither one of them is much good. The OliveTree reader is
very convoluted
Well maybe that's RIM's method to deter customers from installing third party
Java ME apps.
No wonder you got yourself the HTC Hero.

I had a blackberry curve - a horrible piece of equipment where I could never
get GoBible to work. Or in fact any J2ME application.
The reason i was told was a problem with the J2ME install - when you start up
the phone the first time you get asked(pushed) towards uninstalling
"superfluous" lang

I had a further reminder about this issue today from Jaco Gunter of BSSA.
It doesn't really matter which Bible version is used. It's a general problem
on some BlackBerry models.
I suggest start with trying to install the KJV Go Bible.
I will be rebuilding this soon, but even v2.2.
I take it you've tried one or two Go Bible apps converted to .APK using J2ME
