I see your point. My experience has been that many "printer friendly
versions" aren't much better. But you are right, we need to communicate to
the user what they will be getting when they hit "print." Giving them a
reasonable facsimile of the print version on screen is one option. Another

I didn't answer your table question. I think the best thing to do would be
just to create a plain table for the parallel view. If the cells have
content, I think they will default to equal widths. If not, we can do that
in the CSS too, along with the cell padding etc.
