I have a question on the decoding MS recordings, for instance just 2 channel,
by using an ambisonic decoder to create the stereo.
Am I off the track here? Would an elaborate MS to ambisonic converter be
required, or maybe just a level change between M and S?

Thinking about what you say here, is this working by having pure M from the
front and S from 90 degrees to the side, effectively 'mixing' the M S signals
in the air as they reach the ears/brain? (Maybe I'm thinking about this too
much, my brain is hurting.)

Just on the jungle aspect, according to the manual the Soundfield
ST350 has built in heating elements to help deal with condensation
issues, which may be useful in high humidity jungle situations. I
don't have an ST350 myself, so I'm speaking purely theoretically.
