I have used QT7 for 1st order wavs on loop and for 8 tk tk wavs for discrete playback without issue though you should check any decoder latency when using 16 channel - 4 did have have small latency but not a problem given the material involved. I use Soundflower and aggregate audio devices with

Hi len depends on how you want to use it - Audacity will play back 4/6/8 channel files though wont allow routing so they just output to 1-n - great for quick testing but not for sharing. I did do a bunch of streaming tests 5 years ago and settled on 4ch wavs in a quicktime movie - no loss but

I get only 3 active tracks as well and the ogg file wont play in VLC which has worked for me streaming 1st order ogg files when i did a bunch of testing last year - I could even stream thru itunes with an extra tweak I was actually interested in comparing some higher order bformat playback
