n the cases in both mikes I've serviced has held up well, so I can't

Quantum physics notwithstanding, either there
is foam gunk over the capsul
I'm afraid that happened to the foam inside our mkIII (bought in 1980-ish)
and the bits stuck on the diaphragm of one of the capsules and it was never
the same again. Couldn't get a replacement capsule (or capsules) as those
ones weren't made any more :-( I personal would advise opening up the mic
