Thanks to all who replied. I should have metioned I was using qmail-scanner 1.20rc3. There is an apparent bug in the sub spamassassin routine that incorrectly removes invalid command line characters. I've not fully tested it but it seems to solve my immediate problem. The lines: ($cmdline_recip=$
