I just saw that very message on an old 486 I was refurbishing. However,
I saw it during boot. I had to find all the old DOS programs to
manually set the IRQ and IO addresses of all the ISA NIC cards I had in
the box, AND disable their PNP features. Once I did

Ethernet 56k modem.
Seems like it's about the serial/modem on the card.
Eth0 is stopped ok at anytime, and everything works when it's all running.
I also checked the runlevels.
I run Red Hat 7.1. All updates done. Kernel 2

One thing to remember is that if nothing else is actively running, it's
not really a problem for the oracle process to be taking up so much
processor. In most cases, when something else needs processor time, the
OS will pare down the Oracle usage.

Ohhh yeah, we know all about this one...
In the latest 7.2 errata, there is an updated SCSI driver, called
sym53c8xx_2. This is a back-port of the 2.4.18 Symbios driver,
and it (mostly) fixes the scsi hang on boot issues for the x4000.
we're currently using the 2.4.9-34 kernel on the x4000's

Hi there,
I have Linux RedHat 7.2 installed on my machine and I don't have any modem
in the board so I have decided to buy one but the thing is that I don't
know what kind of modem is supported by RedHat 7.2, in other words, I want

Check the temp of your CPU fan and heat sink...I've noticed, in the past,
that if the CPU isn't being kept cool enough, what will happen is exactly
what you described.
