Two small issues:

Why GT-8300? I have a 1660 Photo.
"cd sane-source; grep -r 8300 *" did not show anythin

I have already tested it and it works perfectly with the "epson" driver
of SANE. The back light works, too.

The scanner will work. You will however have to add a few
configuration entries in two files:
Add the following line to /etc/modules.conf:
options scanner vendo
