Hmm...well maybe its not quite fixed :). After a number of different
setups I discovered that my UMAX MX3 disliked having the scsi chain
messed with unless it was also power cycled. I can setup my chain pretty
much how I like and as long as I turn EVERYTHING off and then everything
on again the bla
Ok I got it to work. The problem...as always is SCSI :) I have found at
least one configuraton that actuallly produces scans. its all pretty
nifty when it works , now I just need to get better cables or drop the
zip drive or something...blah.

Under Linux 2.4.7 (and 2.2.16) using sane 1.0.5 I have connected to my
Buslogic fast scsi PCI card an external ZIP, CDRW, and Astra scanner.
This combo worked fine on my mac
