After a huge help from Henning Meier-Geinitz I have the current
paper that helps anyone get a USB scanner found by SANE. It is basic by
intention so most of you can read it without a lot of trouble.

Thanks Frank. I will repair your, and on hotplug my Red Hat 8 Linux has
it but I don't know how to use it yet. Last night I joined the hotplug
list and hope someone can tell me how it works.

In at least 3 places, replace "your" by "your're" or "you are".
And most of the new distribution support hotplug, so it shouldnt be necessary
to
insmod or modprobe the scanner driver. The parameters to the scanner (if
necessary) can be written into /etc/modules.conf.
