GIMP-Print is not the best solution for the HP printer it limits the
resolution to 600 dpi and does not support the duplex unit. You should
use HPIJS, surf to

for more info.

(1) You were right -- the permission was "crw---" but the owner was
user. When I change the permission to "crw-rw-rw" and set owner to
"user.user" and logoff and logon again the values revert to "cwr---"

then the window goes blank and the light on the scanner stops blinking

The log files show that you are trying to open the file
/dev/ubs/scanner0 and not /dev/usb/scanner0. I am pretty

Hello:
I am trying to connect my Epson Perfection 1650 to a Up2date RH7.3 linux
machine.
I researched the archives and ran the follow test. The scanner is on and
connected.
The device, /dev/usb/scanner0, privelages was set to 666. Can anyone help me
out with the installation?
Thanks
