well, it's not very conclusive- perhaps one of the genesys backend
authors will comment. In the mean time, you might try to upgrade to
the most recent sane-backends release, just to see if there are any
fixes...

We got 4 sounds this time. Yes there is a carriage lock on the bottom but
it is unlocked. I toggled the switch before testing just to be sure.
Once again, I sure appreciate your time and expertise.
Cheers,

Thank you for your help, Allan.
Here is the output to the recommended command:
h# SANE_DEBUG_GENESYS=255 scanimage -L
[sanei_debug] Setting debug level of genesys to 255.
[genesys] SANE Genesys backend version 1.0 build 9 from sane-backends 1.0.19
[genesys] sane_init: authorize != null
[genesys]
sure looks like it is found. what does

do?

if you wish to set an environment variable before running a program,
you must either export that variable, or you must put it on the same
line:
SANE_DEBUG_GENESYS=255 scanimage -L
let us see what that produces.

Hello,
I am a complete newbie using a Dell Latitude laptop. I don't know how to
change preferences etc.
Here is the output I get when going through the online documentation. I
have the correct backend GENESYS installed.

Argh, I took a look at the commits after RELEASE_1_0_20 but that didn't
catch my attention at all. I'll grab/try the patch tomorrow.
Thanks!

Hi,
I've just noticed that my Canon LiDE 50 is broken with sane-backends 1.0.20

Hello everybody!

by the genesys backend. When I try to get a scan (or preview),
the slider starts to move a little bit, a green light is emitted but
then it remains in the start area. The real scan is not startet.

Hi!
I just bought a Canon LiDE 50 not knowing that it is not supported by the SANE
project. Is there really no way to use it? Will there be drivers?
