You can change the default with the SANE_DEFAULT_DEVICE

unless you have many scanne

But if I change the scanner USB port, the device address change:
$ scanimage -L
device `hp2400:libusb:001:004' is a Hewlett-Packard hp24
if you only have one scanner, you dont need to use the -d argument.
