the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
The DOCs say the MX300 is supported, but it seems not. What should I do now?

Ok, so I got the Microtek ScanMaker 4900 (USB2400) to work under Linux
as follows:
Linux Fedora 8 -> Qemu 0.9.0 -> Windows 98 SE -> Microtek ScanWizard 5
What would be the next step? Any idea?

at this point I'm fairly certain that this scanner uses SQ SCAN11 chip.
Since no sane scanner at this point support this chip, I guess it makes the
case pretty hopeless.

to detect chip.
(I noticed that sane-find-scanner does not seem to look for SCAN08 chip).

how do I explain to sane-scan-find that the following is an usb scanner?

I tried something like this, but no go (the goal is to have the

One thing I came across in reading WinXP help files was that Twain does not work
after the scanner is disconnected (as in re-plugging with Linux hotplug). It
then has to be
reinstalled via XP's 'New Hardware Install' wizard.
Could this be contributing here ?
It's frustrating having a fine program like xsane not working in XP.

scanner's rev. is 6.0 if that=
=20
makes any difference or not. I've also so tried some of the suggestions =
from=20
the man pages but they didn't make any difference.

updating to latest test patch and sane-backends 1.0.9 and editing the
plustek.conf file should do the trick, worked for me. except how do i
make sure the map will shutoff after say a minute of not being used ? i
checked the config file for lamp settings just a little confused as to
what to do :D

I purchased an Epson 1250 yesteday, assumming that since the 1240 and
earlier were supported that the 1250 would work. Foolish foolish me. But
none of the stores around here sell 'supported' USB scanners, which is
quite irritating.
