Hi Klaus & Michael,
I haven't been using my scanner (Reflecta Crystalscan 7200) for quite some
time, but when I recently installed Ubuntu 16.04, I decided to check whether
the backend available from https://github.com/kkaempf/sane-backends works. I'm
afraid it does not.
With the available debu

Hi Michael (& Klaus),
Summarizing (from 2 messages):
- Streaming image data to the frontend is not possible, since we want the
backend to be able to do dust/scratch removal. Of course there must be an
option to retrieve raw RGBI data. So: no streaming. Sane_start() will read all
the image data

Hi Michael & Klaus,
A working separate Reflecta/PIE-USB demo backend in the attachment. At least it
works for a Crystalscan 7200. I'm curious about your devices.
The backend consists of:
* reflecta.c: the SANE interface implementation
* reflecta_specific.c: several auxiliary functions
* reflecta

with software development, at least more than I am, so we should use that.

We have a working backend for Reflecta CrystalScan & ProScan 7200, but we
did not succeed in interpreting all the data from the Windows logs. I have
analysed the firmware provided by Reflecta to get a bit further. The firmware
is an older version of the one currently available in the scanners, but
Hi Michael,
I agree with you that the scratch removal implementation should be high
on the priority list. I remember having seen outlines of an algorithm,
do you have any need for them?

Michael & Noah,
Well, I got it to work:
$ scanimage -L
device `pie:libusb:001:005' is a PIE SF Scanner film scanner
I mixed up your instructions a bit, starting with Noah's simple version:
1. Install the libusb-dev package
// libusb-dev already installed (2:0.1.12-14ubuntu0.2)
2. Install
Hi Michael,
A last update with:
- GEM (grain equalisation) settings;
- a set of default scans with very different slides;
- a set with various crop settings.
Nothing spectacular. GEM is done in software completely. Default scans with
different slides (and a scan without slide)
do not appear to ha
Hi Michael,
A short update on a couple of settings (mode normal/quality, auto-exposure,
auto-gamma, and ICE).
For details see: http://www.stadspartijeindhoven.nl/jv/SettingsAnalysis.ods I'm
not completely ready with all settings yet, but If you
have suggestions for additional tests, let me know.
Hi Michael,
Nice, looks as if a basic device driver which merely copies the windows-driver
is not so very far away. Two quick remarks from scanning your source. It should
not be very difficult to implement the polling process with PIE_READ_STATUS.
