I'm on a FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE with an EPSON V500
I've installed:
epkowa-2.11.0_2 The sane-epkowa driver for FreeBSD
sane-backends-1.0.20_4 API for access to scanners, digitals camera,
frame grabbers
sane-frontends-1.0.14_5 Tools for access to scanners, digitals
an to scan all my negatives to have
them digitally to preserve quality. I'm open to any suggestions of brand
and function. I focused on Epson because I'm currently of the opinion
that it's good value for the money :-)

I've used a friends Epson Perfection 2450 scanner with sane with good
results. Unfortunately the scanner has broken down and I'm looking for a
new one.
The 2450 is not in the market any longer so a new model must be chosen.

I've just had a sad experience with the purchase of an Epson Perfection
4490. I missread the list of scanners and got the 4490 instead of the
4990 :-(
Well; because I'm using FreeBSD (7.2-RELEASE) the third party driver the
4490 required was not an option so eventually I sold the 4
