I also have an LiDE220. I noticed a few weeks ago that xsane was giving me the same error. I had no problems with other front ends including xscanimage, scanimage, and simplescan. Hi Philip, I just checked my Fedora22 VM and it uses version 1.0.24 of sane. For my LIDE 220, this problem is fixed in 1.0.25 and later, so I think your problem will be fixed if you install the latest from the sane site. See http://sane-project.org/README.linux for installation instructions. Jo

Hi, I recently purchased a Canon LIDE 220 as it was claimed to be support by sane. I put the USB code (04a9:190f) into the Scanner Search Engine at the sane.org and it yielded this page which says support is complete. http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl?manu=&model=&bus=any&v=04a9&p=190
