is the image header being off by one in width,
both in scanimage and xsane.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
I tried the libsane-avision for 16 february. I still have that odd one
pixel off error.
So the picture looks slanted. (Basically what happens, in the TIFF
header, the width is off by one.)
If you need an example image let me know.

I can use the HP 5300C with the avision backend with a small problem.
When I use either scanimage or XSane, the image generated has a header
which shows the width off by one pixel. (i.e. the image width is one too
high).
The image looks a bit odd of course. I can fix it by hexeditting
