The unstable version is just not working:
$ scanimage
bash: scanimage: command not found
$ xscanimage
xscanimage: error while loading shared libraries: libsane.so.1: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory

Still nothing. I've added my user account to the scanner group, ran the
gene
And... when will the changes be undone, if ever?

Hello,
I've finally managed to make my CanoScan LiDE20 USB work under Linux,
using sane-backends version 1.0.16 - the last version made it jam. I
think the changes done between versions 16 and 17 to whatever backend
it is that controls CanoScan devices should be reverted.
However, I can only use t

Hello,
I tried downloading the sources for the SANE frontends and backends
from http://www.sane-project.org/source.html. Then compiled and
installed them under Fedora Core 5, ran scanimage, and my scanner (a
CanoScan LiDE20 USB) jammed right at the beginning, with the lamps on.
Then, I booted Knop

But since my main OS is FC5, and I (obviously) can't boot from Knoppix
everytime, I absolutely have to get SANE to work on Fedora.
Thanks in advance,

Hello,
First of all, I have no experience whatsoever with Linux, so I
apologise in advance for any stupidity I might have made, or detail I
might have omitted. That being said, I can proceed:
I have just installed Fedora Core 5 (2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp), and I'm
trying to use the CanoScan LiDE20 scan
