I'm expecting too much from a 100 EUR scanner.

In fact
that was the reason for me to buy it.
Perhaps you have access to an Epson Perfection 3490 Photo or a scanner
from the same series (it's the series that just went out of production)?
It would be great if you could try scanning to the edge and let us know
your experiences. I doubt that it works.

I'm annoyed however, that this step is necessary. Why didn't Epson make

I thought that every modern scanner can do this.
I do not need a special book scanner.

Thanks, Theodore, for your detailed suggestions! However, for the time
being, I'll stick with Slackware 10.2 and with Hotplug for Sane.

PS: My apologies, if my comments were perceived as unfair, which they
may well be. I'm somewhat frustrated that the udev related instructions

unclear.

It does: after setting up Hotplug support, the scanner works as ordinary
user, and how well it works: Thanks to those who wrote the SnapScan
backend! :-)

I make the scanner accessible to ordinary users? Why does sane access a

Hi,
Today, I received my TravelScan PRO and would like to use it under
LINUX. On

Hi,
I am looking for a scanner that runs under LINUX and has the following
features:
1. Support for scanning of slides and photo negatives in medium format
(6x6 cm^2).
2. High speed scanning of A4 black and white (only 1 bit, not gray scale)
