Apologies, I've worked out how to use the mail function but still have
the hotplug problem.
I'm aware that I probably have to change permissions, but don't know the
correct code.
Cheers,
Adam.
7; which is set to protocol 'mailto' and
program 'evolution'.
But the 'sent' mail folder in Evolution has no record of any sent images
from XSane.

I take it all back - it works without rebooting.
Thanks for the hand-holding.
Now to work on the Epson backend in CVS.
Cheers,
Adam.
You were right.

Thanks.
Is there a recommended way of removing a duplicate sane installation
besides trial & error ? Having got it partly working I don't want to
blindly start deleting stuff.

untarred it in /home/adam and moved
it to /usr/local/lib/backend but 'sane-troubleshoot'
only found the one in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf
and could not find the scanner (which it had before
I 'updated' the backend).
I won't attach the large log unless you request it.

;Check the scanner's status."
The missing ingredient may be 'usbfs' which should be part of the kernel.
The scanner is plugged in and powered on.

Thanks - where does one download < iscan-1.10.0-3.tar.gz > from ?
Google gave one hit by that name.
At the moment sane & xsane are not recognising my Epson 640U and I'm
reading the 'man' files.

problem for iscan to run with this combination.
Are there any other options for getting a scanner working with 2.6.5 &
Gimp 2 ?
What pkg does 'libesdmod.so.1' come in ?

Olaf Meeuwissen
bsite, untarred, cd'd into the directory,
and './configure went well.
But the 'make' command is not working (below).
What am I missing here ? A scanner module in the kernel (which one
?), or a Perl or Python module ?
