I am a user not a dev or tech person.
I had issues with USB and a Fujitsu scanner.
I am using OpenSuSE 13.1 on a new machine with a Gigabyte Z97-UD5H motherboard.

has both USB2 and USB3 and the BIOS supports legacy USB, EHCI and XHCI USB.
