I'm using Ubuntu10.10, sane1.0.14-9 (thanks to Robert Ancell for
PPA) and Jeffrey Ratcliffe's great gscan2pdf0.9.31.
If I scan in colour, white paper is light grey. It could be nice to
see the exact colour of white, but it is not nice for normal use.

Check that hpaio backend from hplip project is still installed. Then
check that it is listed in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf or a file in
/etc/sane.d/dll.d
