Hi Rene,
using the CVS version (1.1.0) has resolved the vertical stripes!
images look good. I had a single tripe at the middle of the page and
cleaning the CCD glass has fixed it.

Changes:

I have transliterated scanimage and scanadf into Perl, so you can try
the bindings out even with no knowledge of Perl.
