what's the state of affairs getting the Mustek Scan Express A3 USB 600 Pro
running?
I see that finally there is a Mustek driver:

Their hacked libsane_1.0.19-1_i386.deb makes several problems (to be exp
interesting. i would say that by including scanimage into their
package, they are violating the GPL. you could ask them for the
source...

Highly unlikely. Image Scan! for Linux only allows for selection of
negative or positive film. Xsane however let's you choose from among

After installing I get the following when I start scanbuttond:
Mac-Pro:bin wavefront$ ./scanbuttond
Unable to load backend library "/usr/local/lib/libscanbtnd-
backend_meta.so"!
Now I know the support wiki states to run ldconfig to prevent this.
Now on Mac OS X I can't seem to find a fix for
