Hi,
I also just started trying to write a backend (GL842).
I never did that before and havn't been too successful so far. Let me
also point out that
http://www.sane-project.org/contrib.html wasn't very helpful in my
mind. On the other hand, I guess it is difficult to give a general
description of
:dd 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0c
>>> [pixma] 0010:01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 fe
>>> [pixma]
>>> [pixma] IN T=52.831 len=8
>>> [pixma] :15 15 00 00 00 00 00 00
>>> [pixma]
>>> [pixma] OUT T=52.832
That certainly helped!
Thank you!
I had not considered disabling SELinux, a simple "setenforce 0" did the
trick.
I guess it's not the best way to tackle this problem, but it certainly
works.
Jonne.

Hope this helps,

you did not say which version of sane. there was a bug in scanimage that
caused problems with some ADF scanners, which was fixed in sane 1.0.18.
