With the widget you are talking about you select the image position on
the printed page. Due to a change in the last version this does not work
for all printers any more. This will be corrected in the next xsane
version.
With the zoom solider you select the zoom factor of the printed image.

I'm attempting to get an HP Scanjet 4100c USB scanner working on
Fedora Core 5 with a 2.6.16 kernel, but I seem be having some
difficulties. When I connect the device, I see the following messages
in /var/log/messages:

I am using xsane to "copy": print to a laserjet printer what is
scanned from a Print-Scan-Copy (PSC) ink jet printer. It works, and
saves me gobs on ink. Xsane displays an "image position" widget. I
am trying to understand how this works. It is not intuitive to me.
I am using xsane on an amd64
My box is Debian Etch. After the recent dist-upgrade xsane copy showed
only "new printer" and lpr for the command. This works but I want to
print to a second printer attached to a Debian Sarge box on the LAN.
Both boxes use CUPS and from a console I can print to my printer with
the command lp
