I can confirm your hunch, the V700/V750 scanners do use the ESC/I
protocol, and from what I know (I have not seen one yet) about these
scanners, chances are pretty good that they will work the current
version of the EPSON backend. You do need to add the USB information
to the epson.desc fil
I put the output from doing:
scanimage -v --resolution=300 -y 100 -x 100 > test1.pnm 2>debug.txt
at http://128.119.200.7/debug.txt

First of all, vuescan has nothing to do with Sane, so I'm not
commenting on your remarks about vuescan.
I am not planning infrared support for the Sane backend. This is
something that should be handled outside of the backend, so that it's
useful for all scanners that support an infrared chan

Ok, I tried using scanimage without saned, and it works !
I tried various scans, both color and bw, and it looks great.
Now, I need to figure out how to get saned working with this backend.
