Some people reported problems (especially preview problems) with
xsane-0.98 that did not occur with xsane-0.97.
I found a little bug that is solved in xsane-0.98b that can be
downloaded from http://www.xsane.org
You also can fix it by hand:
edit xsane-0.98a/src/xsane-front-gtk.h
