I have just committed some changes regarding the Makefiles to the
sane-backends CVS. Please test if sane-backends can still be built and
installed on your system (especially OpenBSD and MacOS X).
Some details about the changes:

The log says that during the second scan xsane doesn't read image data
at all. So the backend scans until its buffers are filled and then
waits for xsane.
Priniting works perfectly with HP's PSC 1510 using HPLIP and HPLIP-HPIJS after
I got the appropriate PPD, but it won't scan. Trying to install the device as
a scanner with YaST it is listed as "USB scanner, vendor HP, PSC 1500
series", as there is no entry for it then in the list of known device
