I have a Scanmaker E3+ that works fine on WindowsXP.
On linux, I get as far as running:
scanimage -v > test.pnm
and get:
scanimage:
scanning image of size 611x971 pixels at 24 bi
Some problems? Send again my reply...

* Registers are written using USB 'vendor' control transfers:
