I'm using the 'Epson Perfection 2400 Photo' with TAME/2 on OS/2 for
scanning slides within CS-frames. It works very well. But neither 'focus
on glass' nor 'focus 2.5mm above glass' is an appropriate focus.
Nowadays CS-frames are standard with standard dimensions. So I would
prefer a 'focus for

1.0.14 is too old. You must use the CVS version of SANE.
Is it detected by sane-find-scanner?

At least we haven't mentioned that on the page for that scanner
The Pefection 2400 does not support the focus setting, this means that
regardless of how you set the focus, the image will always be the same.

Done.
By the way, every SANE developer can change (and add) these
unsupported scanner pages. They are just normal HTML pages in
I can now confirm that also I have succeeded (at last!) to get my Epson

installation procedure below to apply it on Suse 9.1.

Hello,
I have an epson 2480, I have installed sane-backends-1.0.14.
scanimage -L doesn't identify the scanner.
I have tried to follow the messages in mailing list archive in the
subject, with no success.
I have an option to replace the scanner with epson 1670 / 1670 photo.
Is there a place I can
I've tried this too... But if I update all sane-backends my scanner isn't
recognized yetI dunno why!!!

Hi,
I just want to let you know that I am listening.
What are the Canon backend versions we are talking about
(the version number at the top of canon.c)?

Hi,
Indeed, the commands are identical as far as I can tell, except for a
difference how some of the SCSI command bytes are mapped to the USB
request, value and index fields and some commands that are sent
just before a bulk transfer is done.
I think it's worth linking to this thread from the sca
Can you scan as root? What Linux distribution are you using?

I installed sane-backends 1.0.14 by mdk rpm
Harddrake recognized my scanner as Epson RX500 flatbed scanner

Thanks. I'll start to compare the two releases. There where a number of
changes to make other scanners with ADFs work, and I guess something
broke the 1640.

Also, using the configure option --prefix=/usr will likely yield the
same result. use like this:
./configure --prefix=/usr
then 'make install' will use /usr and not /usr/local

Ethan,
I'll be the first to admit, I didn't have the time to check the list on
that page at the time. It doesn't look like the scanjet will actually
be supported anytime soon unless someone can figure out how to RE it, in
which case HP sales might just go up... sorry about that, and good luck!
