Here are some reports that the Canon LiDE 30 is broken with SANE 1.0.12.
It worked with SANE 1.0.10 and 1.0.11.

i=B4m facing the problem that I get paperjam in my adf from time to
time. After that sane refuses to work on over the network. How can I
persuade sane to continue=3F Reset the sacnner or sane and how=3F Don=B4t
want to restart the server always.

I converted my machine to NetBSD, and was unable to find the scanner,
even when doing 'xscanimage /dev/ss0'
When I made a link from /dev/scanner to /dev/ss0, all was ok. So
while I am now functional, it seems that xscanimage cannot really cope
