I'm working on a backend for scanners based on the 'niash' chipset,
found in scanners like
the HP3300, HP3400, HP4300, (HP5400?) and the Agfa Snapscan Touch.
Until now I've used libusb to provide platform independent USB access

Everytime I ran scanimage --help -d epson, it seemed I got a bit
farther.
After rebuilding it a couple more times, I tried it with xscan and
that came up with a choice requestor showing the old plustek and
the new epson as the choices.
Choosing epson, I ran it thru its paces at 300 dpi.

scans with XSane or other frontends? I am using an HP 6250cse and
although it does work, color scans can be frustratingly slow.
