the function that finds the scanning area and calculates the
dashed rectangle is included only in xsane if I'm not wrong.
That's why in xscanimage you have to draw the scanning area
by hand. I don't know the way xsane calculates the scanning
area but it might be an issue of the contras

is there any progress on the UMAX Astra 3400?
I've tried some changes of the umax1220u backend so the Astra 3400 should be
recognized but
without success.
IIRC someone claimed that the 1220 and the 3400 have similar hardware.

Are there any Scan/Print/Fax combos known to work with Sane? Specifically
the scanner part is of interest, as faxing is usually done internally and
printing really should work.
