Hi,
as the LM9833 chip used in the N670U should be backward compatible

True, but unfortunately this causes a lot of problems for people that don't
have a snapscan scanner. The snapscan backend identifies the scanner

Martin,
Thank you very much for your reply. Everything works now:
1) I had already hacked my kernel to add the two lines required. I've
submitted the patch to FreeBSD.
2) My major issue was that I thought that I could specify "-d
epson:/dev/uscanner0" on the command line for scanimage and have i

Actually, uscanner0 is not a symlink. It is a node that gets created by
FreeBSD when it recognizes that the attached USB device is a scanner.

"Film scanner" would be more accurate in my opinion, because these
devices usually can handle slides, negative strips, and spooled film.
Is there a film scanner with automated frame selection? On the ones I
know you have to manually position a tab on the film strip holder.

Hello,
If I understand correctly the summary is:
- use dev->sane.type = "film scanner";
- suggest to the frontends adding a button-type option "Query
scan-information from scanner";
- the options allow the backend to recognise what the scanner can do;
- prepare for sane2 a way to automatically i

Oops...
I made "make uninstall", updated to latest CVS code,
and i forgot to rewrite snapscan.conf that comments
by default the USB entry /dev/usbscanner...
therefore scanimage only found my ide-scsi CD recorder

It could be a good thing to uncomment the USB entry in
