I am a new contributor and I made a couple of PRs to the SageMath
repository. But both of them show "merging is blocked". Is that normal or
something wrong on my end?

Hi so I've already been working with sage for some time now and everything
runs smooth so far. But if I installed all additional packages in the 1st
install and wish to reduce the size of sage, what would be my best option
to do so?
My machine is wsl Ubuntu(24.04) on Windows

Your brial log is from 3 march, it's most probably not the problem you have.
Try to update your conda install and clean up the Sage installation before
trying to rebuild by
removing all built artefacts
(careful: this will also remove all uncommitted changes/files in the repo!)
git clean -fdx
