Yes, everything went fine, thanks to Michael Abshoff's advice. In
summary, here's what I did:
cd /opt/sage-2.8/spkg/standard
tar xvf linbox-20070812.spkg
cd linbox-20070812/linbox_wrap
libtoolize --copy --force
cd ../..
tar cjf linbox-20070812.
Please try the linbox package here:
http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/was/lj/
