Yep, just checked and you are right. But I did not check if 2.9
mandated it.

I recompiled all of sage to use gfortran
then, from a sage shell, ran
CPPFLAGS=-I"$SAGE_L
I had upgraded my own versions of sage to R 2.8.1
and rpy-1.0.3 quite a while ago.
With some info on what is involved in
'how to make this happen',
I am willing to help out.
