Sorry, correction - replace the file $SAGE_ROOT/spkg/standard/readline-* .
I think on 4.7.2. it should be readline-6.1.spkg, actually.

I believe this is trac ticket #11970:

It will be fixed in the prerelease version 4.8.rc0 (and in the final
release 4.8). You can apply the fix yourself by downloading the file
readline-6.2.p3.spkg mentioned on the trac ticket and replacing
